Black Jack Basics – Part One

[ English ]

The main concept of the game is to be assigned cards adding up to 21. Each twenty-one player is handed two cards. When a black jack player is dealt a nine or lower value card and an Ace they’ve been given a soft hand. When the blackjack player receives no Ace it is known as a hard hand. Once the cards have been handed to all players at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every player is given the opportunity to make one of 6 choices:

Taking another card (Hit): When a blackjack player announces "hit" the croupier will give him another card, if the addition of that card makes the value of the hand to exceed 21 the blackjack player will have lost and that’s the end of the game, if the card pushes the total to twenty-one the gambler wins and if the value of the hand hasn’t yet achieved twenty one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a blackjack player is happy with the hand they’ll stay. Once this has happened the croupier will reveal his or her cards and the player who has accumulated 21 or the nearest to twenty-one will come away with a win.

Doubling Down: A player may request to double down which doubles the bet they have placed. As soon as you have taken this action you can only receive one additional card. The details of doubling down are normally specified by the table or betting house game rules so prior to betting make sure you are familiar with the house rules. If you are playing at an internet betting house this is normally very simple.
